South and Central America

With tens of thousands of people migrating irregularly, it is not surprising that some of this migration leads to exploitation. Most of the Central and South American trafficking victims detected in Central America have been trafficked for the purposes of sexual exploitation, but it is unclear whether this is representative of the larger victim pool. Local laws may specifically prohibit sexual exploitation but remain vague about other forms of labor.
